专家称，中国外汇储备激增，加上人民币升值步伐转缓，可能令人民币国际化的计划脱轨或放缓。

尽管首季度贸易逆差较小，但中国外汇储备仍增至1970亿美元，是内地外汇储备连续第三个季度增加，由1950亿增至2000亿美元。

经济学家兼央行顾问樊纲表示，外汇储备继续增长的一个主要原因，是进口九成使用人民币结算，即内地用人民币购进商品，但以美元卖出出口品。

兼任非政府智囊机构国民经济研究所所长的樊纲表示，越用人民币进行结算，外汇储备累积便越多。

Sanford C. Bernstein资深分析师Michael Werner表示，外汇储备不断增长，对央行构成一个日益恶化的问题，因为央行要努力消除流动资金，以缓解这些流入资金造成的通胀压力。

Ballooning foreign exchange reserves and a tapering off in the yuan's appreciation could derail or slow Beijing's plan to internationalise its currency, experts say.

Foreign exchange reserves rose to US$197 billion in the first quarter despite a small trade deficit in the same period. It was the third consecutive quarter in which the mainland's foreign exchange reserves have risen from US$195 billion to US$200 billion.

A key reason foreign exchange reserves continue to grow is the fact that 90 per cent of yuan-trade settlement is for imports, said economist and central bank adviser Fan Gang. That means when the mainland buys goods, it pays in yuan - but it is paid in US dollars for exports, Fan said.

"The more we use yuan for settlement, the more foreign reserves we build up," said Fan, who is also director of the National Economic Research Institute, a non-government think tank.

Growing foreign exchange reserves pose an increasing problem for the central bank, as it has to boost efforts to "sterilise" liquidity to offset inflationary pressure caused by these inflows, said Michael Werner, a senior analyst at Sanford C. Bernstein.
