China extends exemption of additional tariffs on 79 U.S. products

China says it will extend tariff exemption for 79 products imported from the United States.

The announcement comes a day before the exemption expires.

The exemption will be extended until December 25.

Over 400 mln doses of COVID-19 vaccines administered in China

Over 400 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in China as of Sunday.

Cities across the country have taken multiple steps to ensure greater convenience for people to get vaccinated, including optimizing the vaccine transportation process and setting up more temporary vaccination sites.

Taiwan reports 333 COVID-19 cases, closes borders and schools

Taiwan reported 333 local COVID-19 cases on Monday, breaking its daily record of local infections for the fourth consecutive day.

The total number of confirmed cases on the island has exceeded 2,000, including 12 deaths.

Amid the surge in local cases, the island will close its borders with effect from Wednesday to all arrivals and transit travelers, except citizens and residency holders.

The ban will remain in place for a month and exceptions will only be made in cases of emergency or for humanitarian reasons.

Starting Tuesday, all schools in Taipei and New Taipei City from elementary to high school level will be closed for 11 days.

Daylight brings no abating of Israeli strikes on Gaza City

Israeli warplanes unleashed a new series of heavy airstrikes at several locations in Gaza City early Monday.

Explosions rocked the city from north to south for 10 minutes in an attack that was heavier, on a wider area and lasted longer than a series of air raids 24 hours earlier in which 42 Palestinians were killed.

The Israeli military said it attacked the homes of nine Hamas commanders after rockets from Gaza were fired at Israeli cities.

A tunnel system used by the Hamas militants is also said to be destroyed.

The most serious hostilities in years between the two sides have left about 200 Palestinians dead, including around 60 children.

The death toll in Israel stands at 10, including two children.

Hamas: ceasefire to only happen once Israel stops aggression

Spokesperson Abdul Latif for Hamas has told China Central Television that a ceasefire can only happen once Israel stops its aggression against Palestinians.

China's industrial output up 9.8 pct in April

China's value-added industrial output, an important economic indicator, went up 9.8 percent year on year in April as factory activities continued to pick up.

The figure is up 14 percent from the level in 2019, bringing the average growth for the past two years to 6.8 percent.

In the first four months, industrial output went up 20 percent year on year, resulting in an average two-year growth of 7 percent.

Chinese scientists discover ultrahigh-energy cosmic accelerators in Milky Way

Chinese scientists have detected a dozen ultra-high-energy (UHE) cosmic accelerators within the Milky Way.

This is a find that experts suggest could overturn humanity's understanding of the galaxy and help reveal the origin of cosmic rays, which have puzzled scientists for a century.

The findings were based on the observations of China's Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory, which is under construction in Sichuan Province.

A documentary series on the 100-year journey of the Communist Party of China will premiere on Chinese television on Tuesday.
