China hails nuclear energy cooperation with Russia

China is hailing its cooperation with Russia on a nuclear energy project.

President Xi Jinping and President Vladimir Putin will witness the ground-breaking ceremony of the cooperation project on Wednesday via video link.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Zhao Lijian speaks about its significance.

"This year is the 20th anniversary of the signing of the Sino-Russian Good-Neighborly Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation. The event will be the first online exchange this year between President Xi and President Putin. It is of great significance in maintaining high quality development of the China-Russia relationship, a comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for a new era."

Agreements on the project were signed in 2018.

The two sides will jointly build four units at two nuclear power plants in China.


China condemns U.S. for fueling tension in Gaza after failed UNSC statement

China is condemning the United States for fueling conflicts between Israel and Palestine after it blocked a joint statement of the United Nations calling for an immediate ceasefire for the third time.

Led by China, Norway and Tunisia, the UN Security Council on Sunday held an emergency meeting to discuss the situation in Gaza. However, due to U.S. opposition, the meeting has again ended with no concrete outcome.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian said the U.S. is standing on the opposite side of the justice.

Washington has reportedly approved over 730 million U.S. dollars in arms sales to Israel amid the Gaza conflict.

Spokesperson Zhao Lijian urged the U.S. to act to protect the rights and dignity of the Palestinians.


Israel launches fresh airstrikes

Israel's military on Tuesday carried out a series of airstrikes on what it claimed were military targets in the Gaza Strip.

The military said it struck 65 militant targets, including rocket launchers, a group of fighters and the homes of Hamas commanders.

It also said Palestinian militants fired 90 rockets, 20 of which fell short into Gaza.

The conflict broke out on May 10 following weeks of clashes between Palestinian protesters and Israeli police in Jerusalem.

More than 200 Palestinians have been killed in the week of airstrikes.

In Israel, 10 people have been killed by rockets fired from Gaza.


Over 90 people still missing after vessel sank in India

Over 90 people are still missing after a vessel adrift off Mumbai's coast sank during Cyclone Tauktae.

The vessel was carrying 273 people when it started drifting on Monday as strong winds battered India's western coast.

Officials say more than 170 people have been rescued so far. 

The colossal cyclone, the biggest to hit the region in decades, made landfall in Gujarat state late Monday as an "extremely severe cyclonic storm." 

It weakened to a "very severe cyclonic storm" by Tuesday morning.


China's space station core module enters rendezvous orbit

The core module of China's space station has successfully entered its planned rendezvous orbit.

Tianhe was sent into space last month, kicking off a series of key launch missions that aim to complete the station construction by the end of next year.

Meanwhile, preparation for the launch of Tianzhou-2 cargo vessel is in full swing.

This is another mission planned for China's space station project that includes the launches of the core module and two lab capsules, four cargo vessel flights and four manned missions.


China Mobile eyes $6 billion Shanghai listing after flagging NYSE exit

China Mobile has approved plans for a potential 47 billion HK-dollar, or about 6 billion US-dollar, listing in Shanghai.

It plans to sell no more than 964 million shares publicly on the Shanghai Stock Exchange at an undisclosed price.

China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom said they expect the New York Stock Exchange to notify regulators of their delisting.

The delistings stem from a Trump-era decision to restrict investment in Chinese tech firms, which has been left unchanged by the Biden administration.


Skyscraper wobbles in southern China's Shenzhen, no earthquake reported

Authorities in Shenzhen are trying to figure out what has caused a skyscraper to wobble.

The SEG Plaza that is over 350 meters tall began to shake at 1:50 p.m. on Tuesday.

No earthquake was detected in the city at that moment.
