Chinese president announces 3 billion USD in COVID-19 aid

Chinese President Xi Jinping has pledged an additional 3 billion U.S. dollars in international aid over the next three years to support COVID-19 response and economic and social recovery in other developing countries. 

The Chinese president addressed the Global Health Summit via video link from Beijing. 

The president noted that having already supplied 300 million doses of vaccines worldwide, China will continue to provide more vaccines to the best of its abilities. 

He also called on G20 member countries to shoulder responsibilities in global coopration against the virus.

The summit was jointly held by the European Commission and Italy, which holds the 2021 G20 presidency.

Beijing calls on EU to reflect on wrong unilateral sanctions on China

A spokesperson for China's foreign ministry says that the European Union's decision on issuing unilateral sanctions on China interfered with China's internal affairs and severely harmed China-EU relations. 

The European Union made the decision to freeze the investment agreement with China until Beijing lifts sanctions on EU individuals.

The spokesperson says China's sanctions were a necessary response to the lies on issues related to Xinjiang.

He adds that China urges the EU to manage differences through dialogues and return to the right track of cooperation.

Hong Kong judiciary delegation visits Beijing

A judiciary delegation led by the chief justice of Hong Kong's Court of Final Appeal has concluded its four-day visit to Beijing. 

It was Andrew Cheung Kui-nung 's first visit to Beijing since he assumed office as chief justice in January.

Cheung says that he will lead Hong Kong's judicial authority to perform its duties and safeguard the constitutional order in the special administrative region as prescribed by the Constitution and the Basic Law.

Chief Justice Zhou Qiang of the Supreme People's Court says that he expects Hong Kong to comprehensively implement the "patriots administering Hong Kong" principle.

Tibet is thriving and prospering in the new era: white paper

A white paper says that Tibet is enjoying rapid and sustained growth in the new era thanks to social harmony and stability.

The white paper issued by China's State Council Information Office says that all those counties formerly classified as poor have risen out of poverty, and the people are leading better lives in every respect.

It also says there have been improvement in environmental protection, ethnic unity, and border security, as religion has found its place in a socialist society.

Mauritius receives new batch of China's COVID-19 vaccines

A new batch of China's Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccines has arrived in Mauritius to help the island country fight the pandemic.

The Mauritian Prime Minister says China has provided emergency vaccine aid to Mauritius not long ago and is delivering the second batch as quickly as possible.

The Chinese Embassy in Mauritius says the two countries' joint efforts in the fight against the pandemic illustrate the concept of building a China-Africa community of health for all.

Arctic Council adopts first strategic plan for next 10 years

Foreign ministers of the eight-member Arctic Council have adopted their first 10-year strategic plan for the region, to mark the Council's 25th anniversary.

The council says the plan reflects the shared values of the Arctic States and the Permanent Participants to advance sustainable development and good governance in the Arctic.
