First day of Gaokao concludes

The first day of China's national college entrance exam has come to an end. 

Over 10 million students across China are sitting the exams known as Gaokao. 

Some parents wore traditional Chinese dresses for good luck.

Students have mixed feelings about how they did. 

This is China's second Gaokao season under the pandemic. All tests are being conducted under strict COVID-19 prevention and control measures.


Putin signs law on Russia's official withdrawal from Open Skies Treaty

Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a law to officially quit the Treaty on Open Skies.

Russia started domestic legal procedures for the withdrawal after the United States pulled out of the treaty last year. 

The multilateral Treaty on Open Skies, which came into effect in 2002, allows its states-parties to conduct short-notice, unarmed reconnaissance flights over the others' territories to collect data on military forces and activities.


Elephants slow down after rainfall in Yunnan

The elephant herd has slowed their journey in Yunnan. The 15 wild elephants have traveled more than 500 kilometers since leaving their habitat in March last year.

Tesla cancels highest-end Model S Plaid Plus

Tesla has canceled the production of its Model S Plaid Plus vehicles. 

The company's CEO Elon Musk tweeted that there is no need for what would have been Tesla's highest-end model. 

Model S Plaid Plus was going to feature Tesla's new fat battery cells, which will give it a range of over 800 kilometers.


Last soldier who liberated Auschwitz dies at 98

The last surviving Soviet soldier involved in the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp has died at the age of 98.

David Dushman flattened the forbidding electric fence around Auschwitz with his tank on January 27, 1945. 

He admitted that he didn't immediately realize the full magnitude of what had happened in Auschwitz.

After the war, Dushman helped train the former Soviet Union's women's national fencing team for four decades.


De Bruyne PFA player of the year for 2nd time in a row

Kevin De Bruyne has been named the The Professional Footballers' Association Men's Players' Player of the Year for the second successive season.

The Manchester City midfielder equaled the feat that only Cristiano Ronaldo and Thierry Henry had managed.

De Bruyne says he's flattered by the honor. 

The Belgian player won the English Premier League and the Carabao Cup with City that finished the Champions League as runners-up.
