President Xi stresses drawing strength from CPC history

Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for drawing strength from the Communist Party of China's history to forge ahead.

President Xi, also general secretary of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks when visiting an exhibition on the CPC history.


China, Arab states to cooperate in emerging sectors

Chinese officials say the country will expand cooperation with Arab states in emerging industries such as digital economy, new energy and artificial intelligence.

The Chinese Commerce Ministry says that the 5th China-Arab States Expo will be held in Yinchuan in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region from August 19 to 22.


No one is above law: China

Chinese authorities have said the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region is a law-based society and no individual or institution is above the law.

The statement from the Chinese Foreign Ministry came in response to remarks made by some Western politicians on the arrest of five executives of Apple Daily and related companies.

Hong Kong officials said two of the five were charged for the offense of collusion with a foreign country or with external elements to endanger national security under the national security law. The other three were being detained for further investigation.


China vows peaceful use of space

China has hailed the successful launch of its Shenzhou-12 manned spaceship and called for peaceful use of the space with the international community.

The spaceship completed the orbital status setting after entering the orbit and successfully docked with the space station core module Tianhe. It is the first time for Chinese astronauts to enter their own space station.

A Chinese government spokesperson said the mission is a key step to China's manned space program as well as to usher in a new era for China's exploration of space.


Over 966 million doses of vaccines administered in China

More than 966 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in China.

The National Health Commission made the announcement on Friday.


Chinese vice premier calls for all-out preparation for Tokyo Games

Chinese Vice Premier Sun Chunlan has called on athletes and coaches to spare no effort in preparation for the upcoming Tokyo Olympic Games.

Sun made the remarks when she paid a visit to the State General Administration of Sport.

She stressed that with just about a month away from the Tokyo Games, the athletes' health should be the first priority as there should be a thorough COVID-19 prevention plan in place to minimize the impact of the pandemic.


Cambodia's COVID-19 infections continue to rise

Cambodia registered nearly 800 new COVID-19 cases on Friday.

The new infections included 702 local cases and 97 imported cases.

Cambodia has so far reported over 41,500 infections.

The Southeast Asian nation launched a COVID-19 inoculation drive on February 10.


Canada says mRNA vaccine now preferred as 2nd dose following AstraZeneca shot

Canada is recommending that citizens who received a first dose of AstraZeneca vaccine get a Pfizer or Moderna jab for their second shot.

This is based on growing evidence that a second dose of an mRNA vaccine produces a stronger immune response, and because of the initial risk of vaccine-induced blood clots associated with AstraZeneca.


U.S. Tennis Open to allow 100 percent fan capacity

Organizers say the U.S. Open will allow 100 percent fan capacity this summer.

This comes one year after spectators were not allowed at the Grand Slam tournament as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The U.S. Open will mark the first Grand Slam tournament to have fans in full capacity since the 2020 Australian Open.

This year's U.S. Open is scheduled to be played at Flushing Meadows in New York from August 30 to September 12.
