President Xi calls for greater efforts to promote, protect Great Wall

Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for efforts to help people learn more about the Great Wall.

He was speaking in a reply letter to villagers living at the foot of the Badaling Great Wall in a northern suburb of Beijing.

President Xi also urged efforts to engage more people in the Great Wall's protection to pass on the heritage to future generations.

 

Russian-Chinese economic ties have great prospects: Putin

The Russian president has said Russia and China are promoting the prosperity of both nations by expanding equal and mutually beneficial cooperation in economic and cultural fields.

Vladimir Putin was speaking in a written interview on the eve of his two-day state visit to China.

Putin noted that the rapid development of Russia-China trade relations has been demonstrating strong immunity to external challenges and crises.

He said bilateral trade has doubled in the past five years and China has been Russia's largest trading partner for 13 consecutive years.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has criticized the U.S. over its suppression of China's normal economic, trade and technological activities.

Wang described the U.S. move as the most typical bullying behavior in the world today.

He made the remarks on additional U.S. tariffs on Chinese imports following a meeting with Pakistani Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar.

Earlier, the two foreign ministers held a strategic dialogue in the Chinese capital.

 

Major global automakers call for fair trade environment

Major international vehicle manufacturers from China, the US and Germany have called for a fair and open global trade environment.

Secretary-General Fu Bingfeng from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers hit back at the additional U.S. tariffs on Chinese imports.

 

China Coast Guard warns Philippine vessels trespassing in China's waters

China Coast Guard says Philippine vessels illegally entered Chinese waters in the South China Sea on Wednesday afternoon.

The Philippine move comes despite repeated warnings from the coast guard in the waters around Huangyan Island.

The coast guard has urged the Philippines to stop its acts which violate China's sovereignty, international law and the basic norms of international relations.

Meanwhile, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Wang Wenbin has warned the Philippines against abusing China's kindness, saying Huangyan Island is China's inherent territory.

Singapore has inaugurated Lawrence Wong as prime minister.

The ceremony took place on Wednesday after Lee Hsien Loong stepped down following two decades in office.

 

Multi-sport qualifying series to take place in Shanghai

The first stop in a new series of Olympic qualifiers will open in Shanghai on Thursday.

It will serve as a final chance for competitors in breaking, BMX freestyle, skateboarding and sport climbing to reach Paris.
