Hong Kong Lays Out Welcome Mat for More French Expats
Hong Kong's levels of je ne sais quoi are slated to get a boost in the coming year, with the signing of a government agreement that will bring more French expatriates to the already French-accented Chinese city.
随着一项政府协议的签署，对法国人来说，未来一年香港将会更加地妙不可言。根据该协议，这个本已洋溢着法国风情的中国城市将迎来更多法国人。
Thanks to a new bilateral program, which begins in July, up to 200 French youth will be allowed to live and work in Hong Kong for up to a year on a visa similar to the one issued to tourists. Likewise, 200 youth from Hong Kong will be encouraged to partake in a similar arrangement in France.
从今年7月起，香港将实施一项新双边计划。届时，最多将有200名法国年轻人获准在香港生活和工作，签证期限最长为一年时间。该签证与旅游签证类似。同样，200名香港年轻人也将被鼓励去法国参加类似安排。
According to the French consulate, the number of French expatriates in the city has doubled since 2006, and there are currently an estimated 16,000 living in Hong Kong.
法国驻香港领事馆表示，生活在香港的法国人2006年以来增加了一倍，据估计目前有1.6万名法国人生活在香港。
'It was quite a surprise when I arrived,' says Clémence Trancart, who arrived from Paris four years ago after her husband took a local job in the finance sector. 'But there are more and more French articles featuring the life of French people in Asia, so a lot are coming to Hong Kong now.'

Ms. Trancart's experience inspired her and collaborators to launch Hong Kong Madame at the end of 2010, and more recently Hong Kong Monsieur, French-language online publications that cater to the French-speaking population.
受这一经历的启发，特朗卡尔与合作者在2010年底推出了《香港女郎》(Hong Kong Madame)，最近又推出了《香港先生》(Hong Kong Monsieur)，二者均为迎合法语人口的法语在线刊物。
Particularly in the traditional Chinese neighborhood of Sheung Wan, where bird's nest and coffin-carving shops and temples still line the streets, it's not unusual to hear snatches of French being spoken. In recent months, a French rotisserie chicken shop has opened, serving an area that already has at least one French wine shop, boulangerie, creperie and multiple French groceries.
特别是在上环这个传统的华人社区（这里的街道两旁现在仍有燕窝店、棺材雕刻店铺和寺庙），听到有人说法语如今已并不稀奇。最近几个月里，一家法国烤鸡店开张营业，而这里已经有至少一家法国葡萄酒店、一家面包房、一家薄饼店和好几个法式杂货铺。
French exports to Hong Kong have doubled in the past three years, says French minister of economy and finance Pierre Moscovici. According to the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, the city's French population is the largest in Asia.
法国财政部长莫斯科维奇(Pierre Moscovici)说，过去三年法国对香港出口贸易额增加了一倍。据香港贸易发展局统计，香港的法国人口在规模上高居亚洲榜首。
Most of the French expatriates in Hong Kong work in finance, a spokesman for the French consulate said. 'There are some other sectors that have rising populations, though, like catering or luxury products,' the spokesman said.
法国驻香港领事馆发言人说，在香港的大多数法国人都在金融领域工作。他说，不过从事餐饮和奢侈品等行业的法国人也开始越来越多。
While Hong Kong's hectic pace was at first daunting after the 'quiet' rhythms of Paris, Ms. Trancart says the abundance of French goods and people have helped her get used to the city. And as a new mother, Ms. Trancart says that apart from better job prospects, there are other reasons why being in Hong Kong is preferable for French expatriates.
特朗卡尔说，在习惯了巴黎的慢生活后，初来香港时会觉得这里紧张的节奏令人心怯，但香港有很多法国产品，也有很多法国人，这些都帮她适应了这座城市。特朗卡尔说，自己初为人母，除工作前景更为光明外，还有别的原因让她觉得香港非常适合法国人生活。
'In France, once your pregnancy is over, you've got to take care of your child and job at the same time,' she says. Thanks to the availability of low-wage domestic labor in Hong Kong, though, she's able to hire a full-time helper. 'Here in Hong Kong, it's definitely better,' she says.
她说，在法国如果你孕期结束，就要同时带孩子和工作，而香港的家政服务收费很低，她可以雇一个全职帮手。特朗卡尔说，在香港生活肯定是更舒服的。
