语言的色彩不一定出自画家笔下。美国英语中有一些视觉比喻，不仅能使语言更加生动，而且也更传神达意。

你在同一个美国人讲话时，大概不多久就会听到对方使用某个带“图画”或“艺术”这种词的表达法。例如：

To get the picture（看清景象）

含义： 理解明白某一情况。

对话举例：“You don’t need to explain it again. I get the picture.”（你不必再解释了。我明戏了。）

A picture is worth a thousand words（一图顶千言）

含义：一幅图画/一张图片可以表明一个需要用大量文字说明的事情。

对话举例：“I think you should use photos during your presentation. Remember, a picture is worth a thousand words.”（我认为你应该在作报告的时候用一些图片。别忘了，一图顶千言。）

To see the big picture（看到大画面/格局）

含义： 看出一件事情中的最主要方面以及它与其他各方的关系影响。

对话举例：“In my company, employees often don’t see the big picture because they are too busy looking at the details.”（在我的公司里，员工一般看不到全局，因为他们过多忙于具体事务。）

To have (something) down to a fine art（将[某事]掌握到极致纯熟）

含义：基于反复多次的经验，能够把一件事或一种情况掌握得犹如一门艺术般极致精美纯熟。

对话举例：“She has her morning routine down to a fine art. As a result, she’s never late to work.”（她对早上的通勤规律已经驾驭成精，所以从来不迟到。）

State-of-the-art（最先进优良的）

含义： 非常现代的，采用最新设想和方法的。

对话举例： “The technology company uses state-of-the-art computers.”（这个技术公司运用最先进的电脑。）
