The FBI is a governmental agency belonging to the US Department of Justice that serves as both a federal criminal investigative body and an internal intelligence agency (counterintelligence). The FBI’s mandate is established in the US Code which authorizes the Attorney General to “appoint officials to detect and prosecute crimes against the US.” Other federal statutes give the FBI the authority and responsibility to investigate specific crimes. The FBI was designed to track down and arrest the crooks that local cops can’t and measures its accomplishment by successful convictions.

It is not clear whether the rivalry between FBI and CIA may change the intelligence landscape they respectively ruled or their dispute would finally convince the US government to establish new regulations to prevent them from cutting one another’s throat. Or it may give rise to the creation of a new body to oversee and strictly restrain their behaviors. Though all above are just speculations, everything is possible.

Causeway Bay tops rent list

New York’s Fifth Avenue ended its 11-year run as the world’s most expensive retail area, dethroned by Hong Kong’s Causeway Bay, according to a survey by real estate services company Cushman & Wakefield, Reuters reported. The average retail rent in Causeway Bay increased 34.9% from a year ago to an annual $2,630 per sq ft ($28,310 per sq m), compared with $2,500 per sq ft on Fifth Avenue and $1,129 per square foot on Paris’ Avenue des Champs-Elysees, which comes 3rd on the list.

The 61-year-old railway liability insurance will be abolished on Jan 1, 2013, jinghua.cn reported. Chinese train passengers will therefore stop paying the insurance premium, which is 2% of the ticket price. In addition, regulations on limited railway compensations will also be canceled. In the future, passenger compensation will no longer be limited to RMB150,000 if they are injured or even killed after a railway crash.

At least 50 people, mostly children, were killed Saturday after a school bus was hit by a train in central Egypt, the BBC reported. The train smashed into the bus after a railway signal operator fell asleep, according to AFP. The bus was carrying 60 children aged 4 to 6 when it was struck. Transport Minister Rashad al-Metini stepped down in the wake of the tragedy, while President Mohamed Morsi also accepted the resignation of the Egyptian Railway Authority head.

She posted the pictures on Facebook asking “Do you know these guys?” and found the owner with the help of local media. ‘Street smarts’
