斯坦福大学开设功夫班
The renowned Stanford University opened a kungfu class that started last winter semester and is taught by monks from the Shaolin Temple, World Journal reported. Sponsored by the university’s Health Improvement Program, the class aims to bring harmony to the mind and body of students. “The spirit of Shaolin Kungfu includes compassion, harmony, diligence and inclusiveness,” said Master Shi Yanran, one of the teachers. “It is not a brutal fighting system. In addition to self-defense skills, Shaolin Kungfu exercises also improve health and overall spirit.”
据《世界日报》报道，2011年冬季学期开始，世界闻名的斯坦福大学开设了一门功夫课，由少林寺和尚执教。功夫课由该校”健康改进项目组”赞助，目的是让学生们通过练功，达到身心的协调。功夫班的释延然师傅说，少林功夫的精神，包含了慈悲、和谐、勤奋和包容，与好勇斗狠不同。少林功夫除了将功夫用作自卫，还可健体提神。

A surge in prices for diary products will occur in March, Shanghai Evening Post reported. Baby formula manufacturer Mead Johnson is said to increase its prices by 10-20% by the end of March. Panasonic and Fujitsu are flaunting their waterproof and dustproof phones at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this week, AFP reported. Japanese women are so fond of using their phones in the shower that it makes waterproofing them a must, says Japanese manufacturers. It is not known whether Europeans share the same thoughts on phoning in the shower, but manufacturers hope they will consider the benefits in other scenarios. These include chatting in the rain or if a phone is dropped in a toilet.

A round-trip ticket between Shanghai and London costs about RMB7,000 (tax included) per person in March. Insiders say that ticket price for flights to Britain will begin to surge in April or May and may cost over RMB10,000. Driven by the Olympics, the UK may witness a 25% increase in the number of Chinese tourists this year, said British Airways.

Some struggling companies have lowered their recruitment requirement to junior middle school graduates. A 10-year-old girl in California has died following a pre-arranged after-school fist fight with another girl a year older, US media reported. She was pronounced dead after undergoing an emergency surgery.

British students are increasingly turning to universities in the US. The Daily Telegraph of London reported the trend is happening due to growing competition for places on British degree courses. Other elite Ivy League institutions have also reported an increase in demand. It is believed the cap on places for home students at English universities, coupled with the prospect of paying ￡9,000 in fees for next year, is fuelling the rise.

British Library on Google
大英图书馆馆藏将上线
The British Library has signed a landmark deal with Google to make its collection available online. The Daily Telegraph of London reported the deal is one of the largest collections of books and pamphlets in the world available and searchable online for the first time. The arrangement will allow Google to index and produce links to texts which date back to the 18th century. Internet users will be able to search for and access huge volumes of out-of-copyright works for free for the first time.
