As for the elderly’s health, 70% of the young people believe they know it well, and have looked after their parents when they fell ill. But 50% of them have no idea what kind of medicines their parents are taking.

The Communist Party of China (CPC) is going to amend the Party Constitution at its upcoming 18th national congress scheduled for Nov 8, Xinhua reported. The Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee decided Monday to submit a draft amendment to the Party Constitution to the 7th Plenum of the 17th CPC Central Committee for further discussion, before it is tabled with the national congress.

Lance Armstrong (see photo) was stripped of his 7 Tour de France titles and banned for life Monday after the International Cycling Union (UCI) ratified the US Anti-Doping Agency’s sanctions against him, Reuters reported. “Lance Armstrong has no place in cycling and he deserves to be forgotten in cycling,” UCI President Pat McQuaid said. The decision follows this month’s finding by the anti-doping agency that there is “overwhelming” evidence that Armstrong was involved in “the most sophisticated, professionalized and successful doping program.”

Newspapers accounting for 90% of the circulation in Brazil have abandoned Google News on the recommendation of Brazil’s National Association of Newspapers, the BBC reported. Google once said its service boosted traffic to news websites. But the association’s president, Carlos Fernando Lindenberg Neto, holds that Google News is not helping them. “By providing the first few lines of our stories to Internet users, the service reduces the chances that they will look at the entire story in our websites,” he said in an interview.

The European Space Agency is in the process of building an unmanned probe that would travel to the moon, where it would search for subsurface ice on the lunar surface, The Daily Telegraph of London reported. The goal of the ￡500m voyage, scheduled for 2018, is to land on the south pole of the moon and see if it can find frozen water, which could then be used to help sustain astronauts during future journeys to Earth’s lone natural satellite. It will also be man’s first attempt at landing an object on the south pole of the moon.

As of Monday, 17 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities have released their consumer price index (CPI) data for September. Among them, Hainan saw the biggest rise of 3.2%, followed by Beijing (3.0%) and Liaoning (2.5%); the lowest increase occurred in Yunnan and Zhejiang, both registering 1.4%. The CPI inflation rate in 8 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities – namely Hainan, Beijing, Liaoning, Hubei, Shanghai, Tianjin, Guangdong and Jiangxi – outpaced the national average of 1.9%, according to chinanews.com.

Romney said Obama’s policies toward the Middle East and North Africa were not stopping a resurgence of the threat from al-Qaida in the region.
