语言基本流畅，语感不错，但有些地方比较拗口，信息传递有些地方欠准确，时态把握上应该更加严谨些。

随着工业化、城镇化加快推进以及人口增加和人民生活水平提高，粮食消费需求呈刚性增长，而耕地减少、水资源短缺、气候变化等对粮食生产的约束日益突出。
As industrialization and urbanization speeds up and the living standard of the Chinese people improves, the demand for grain is increased. However, China is faced with the fact of less farmland, shortage of water resources and climate change, which seriously affects the grain production.

浪费现象长期困扰我国经济社会发展。要面子、上档次、讲排场、比阔气，公款吃喝不仅浪费了宝贵的粮食，而且败坏了社会风气。
Worse still, squandering (banqueting in the exclusive restaurants and purchasing luxury commodities to show off or compete with friends) and using public funds for personal pursuit (dining, recreation etc.) not only cause the waste of food and money, pollute the general mood of the society, but also harm the economic and social development.

在一些人看来，公款消费，浪费的是国家财产，个人不感到心疼。奢侈浪费是社会浮躁的一种表现，每一项浪费的背后都是对能源、资源的浪费。
Nevertheless, some people don’t regard is improper and don’t feel pity of much money spent, because they themselves don’t pay the money. Yet extravagancy shows that the good atmosphere of a moral society is being polluted, because the cost for the prodigality is the waste of energy and resources.

各种奢华现象与我们现有的经济实力、生产水平、资源储备极不相称，是不可持续的。
More importantly, the extravagant activities are unsustainable – they are beyond the economic power, production capability and resource reserve of China.

一些工程好大喜功，动不动要争“世界第一”“亚洲最大”“技术最领先”，搞“形象工程”说明，我们民族的素质尚有欠缺。
Ironically, some of Chinese developers intentionally pursue reputation for their projects, such as making their projects “No. 1 of the world”, “most sophisticated technology of the globe used” etc, which, however, means nothing but degrades the quality of our Chinese Nation.

为什么要争中国第一乃至世界第一？日子是老百姓自己的，把省下来的钱用在建好保障房、搞好社保医保、扶危济贫、治理污染、弘扬中华民族文化方面，来得更实在。
What do we pursue the undeserved fame of No.1 of China or No.1 of the world for? Well-being of our people is the utmost importance. We can purchase quality but reasonable-price goods, and then we can save lots of money from not buying luxury commodities. The money then can be used to build better affordable housing, improve health care system, help the poor, reducing pollution and expand the Chinese culture to the world, which is what really matters.
